I established the WOW program because I wanted to meet and interact with children in a positive way. Often times in the past, the only time children went to the principal's office would be if they did something wrong. But with the WOW program I have children who are excited about going to my office!
A wow is a certificate that you get for doing something outstanding. It varies by grade level and could be helping a friend in need, helping clean up the lunch tables, helping clean up in the classroom, working quietly, etc. Once a child collects five wow certificates they are able to go to my office and pick a prize from my well-stocked treasure chest!
I get to talk with them about the reasons that they received their "WOW" certificates and reinforce their good behaviors, while at the same time building a personal relationship with the child. I think the experience I have with the WOW program is just as rewarding for me as it is for the children.
