Volunteering
Would you like to be a parent volunteer? We would love to have you!
Volunteers need proof of a TB test and to sign a volunteer form in the office. Once you have proof of your TB test, bring it into the office for verification. Periodically our district nurse offers TB clinics where you can come and get a free TB test administered. Call the office for dates and times at 656-6252. The TB test is good for 4 years. Remember ALL volunteers must sign in at the office and wear a "parent volunteer" identification sticker.
Here are some of the volunteer descriptions in .pdf format.

Annual Fundraising Events
Our school chooses to do the Entertainment Coupon Book and the Sally Foster Gift Wrap fundraisers for several reasons.
First and foremost, it has brought in the funds that we need to purchase:
- Educational assemblies
- Fund curriculum events such as Gold Rush Days, Colonial Days, Egyptian Fete, busses for 6th grade camp, staff appreciation, fall festival, back to school beach party, library books, technology/computer lab needs i.e. maintenance and software
- Establish a literacy fund to help us staff a qualified reading specialist to help all Marshall students excel in their reading/writing
- Allows us to award mini-grants to all teachers so that they can purchase resource materials for every student in their classroom
- It also allows us to fund super student awards, breakfast and book mornings, playground equipment, Accelerated Reader test programs, Marshall Mustang Newsletter, WOW Awards, Safety Patrol and Running Club.
The second reason is that we have had the most success with raising money with these two main fundraising events. We have raised over $20,000.00 so far and we hope to continue this success so that we can keep the resources coming. Since we get the minimum State funding at Thurgood Marshall Elementary, we have to fundraise in order to keep the school running most efficiently. Every little bit counts and everything costs so much!
