SAFETY
Arriving at School

Unless special arrangements have been made with the school staff (i.e. before school tutoring) NO STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED ON CAMPUS BEFORE 8:35 unless they are here for the breakfast program, have Safety Patrol duty (both start at 8:15) or are enrolled in the YMCA child care program. The reason for this rule is an important one----student safety. It is not possible for us to supervise students at this time of day. It’s also heartbreaking to see our little ones huddled against a building in the cold!

Good N' Safe Program

A second area where we need your support is for our “Good ‘N Safe” parking lot program which is designed to help ease our traffic congestion and to increase student safety. All rules and procedures are currently in full effect even though we haven’t been successful in creating a large enough pool of volunteers to have adults consistently helping at this time. If you feel you might be able to assist one or more days a week in one or more of these time slots, (8:30-8:50, 11:45-12:15, 2:55-3:25) please call and leave your name and number in the office and I will personally call you back. Note: times will vary on minimum days.

Please follow the guidelines below (each and every day whether anyone is looking or not!):

Surface streets near school

Park only on grey curb areas without blocking driveways (respect red   zones; no double   parking)

Keep your speed to a minimum (5-10 miles per hour recommended)

Follow all Safety Patrol directions

Drive to the end of the street to change direction (no U-turns at the bend on San Lucas)

Set an example for students and parents alike through your patience and courtesy; only   positive   interactions with students and adults alike.

School driveway and lot

Use the one-way driveway only as designed (cars are continuing to enter from the wrong direction on a daily basis)

An adult driver must stay behind the wheel of any car in the yellow curb drop-off and pick-up zone (one-way driveway) at all times.

Note: Kindergarten students MUST be walked to their  classrooms, so the drop-off driveway only works if you have two adults in the car

Drop-off should take no more than 1 minute. Please conduct all related business at home i.e.   giving lunch money, signing planners, packing the backpack, etc. Do NOT wait to watch your students enter their classrooms. You’ll need to find a space and park to do this.

CONTINUE TO PULL AS FAR FORWARD AS POSSIBLE AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY

No student drop-off is allowed in the driveway by the large parking lot but you are allowed to let your students out in the parking area closest to the mural

Use only the yellow-striped crosswalks to enter the school grounds from the large parking lot.

Follow all requests made by our Safety Patrol and parent volunteers.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to make Marshall as safe as possible and for setting a good example for our students and community members as well!

Sincerely,

Peter Matz
