Attendance
The State of California finances schools based on a promised number of days each child should attend. Records are kept very carefully that are constantly monitored by the State. Research and practical experience have demonstrated a very strong relationship between timely, consistent attendance and a student's educational progress. Perfect attendance is strictly defined as NO tardies, NO leaving school early, NO appointments during school hours. In order to be considered for perfect attendance, your child must stay at school from the time the morning bells rings until afternoon dismissal.
Contacting the Attendance Secretary
You can call and leave a detailed message by calling 619-656-6252. Please include your child's name, your name, your child's teacher and room number, your contact information and the reason for your child's absence. You can also contact the Attendance Secretary, Mary Lou Soto, by email with the above information.
Rewards
Because school attendance is so important, we believe strongly in rewarding children for this achievement. Currently we are proud to be ranked #2 in the Chula Vista School District for year round schools in perfect attendance! And for the 2005-2006 school year we are hoping for the #1 spot!
Students that attend school every day each quarter are awarded a Perfect Attendance award with a dog tag and chain. They have the opportunity to collect all 4 dog tags througout the year. At the end of the year, the office looks through the records to see who has had perfect attendance for the full school year. Those students are recognized at an assembly and awarded such items as Knott's Soak City passes, tickets to various amusement centers around the Chula Vista area. We have students have had 2, 3, 4 and even 5 years of perfect attendance!!! Each year that they meet this goal, they get extra added gifts added to their award. It's a great personal goal for each child to strive for.
Absences
Illness
We do understand if a child is truly ill. A child that has a fever should NOT come to school.
Extended Absence
If you should need to take your child out of school for an extended period of time an independant study contract can be established. The Health/Attendance secretary can draw up this contract with you, your student and their respective teacher. Each contract must be approved by the Principal in order for it to be in effect.
